Task :
Find an African Canadian person who has made a difference/postive contribution to society/or should be celebrated, known or remembered.


Find out what they did, who they are.

Oscar Perterson

Oscar Emmanuel Peterson was born in August 15, 1925, whose early talent, speedy fingers and musical genius made him one of the world's best known jazz pianists. He was a Canadian jazz pianist and composer that he was called the “Maharaja of the Keyboard” by Duke Ellington.

He was a member of jazz royalty. He released over 200 recordings, won seven Grammy Awards, and received other numerous awards and honours over the course of his career.

He wrote pieces for piano, for trio, for quartet and for big band. He also wrote several songs, and made recordings as a singer. Probably his best know compositions are “Canadian Suitesd“Hymn to Freedom”.

He is considered to have been one of the greatest pianists of all time, who played thousands of live concerts to audiences worldwide in a career lasting more than 65 years.
